Epiphany
Just had an epiphany and self-realization recently about my art and much more... At the heart of the matter I am opening up my perspective on what I need to accomplish... Going back to the things that I have the intrinsic need for. New (or going back at what I love to do) art will now be seen on here.
Something to think about:
"Why do we strive for excellence when mediocrity is required?"

Essential Nature
Interesting Quote of the Day:
"The creative process, like a spiritual journey, is intuitive, non-linear, and experiential. It points us towards our essential nature which is a reflection of the boundless creativity of the universe."
- John Loori, The Zen of Creativity

Photography
Sorry for the being a little m.i.a. but needed a break from blogging. Now that my head is all gathered. Ill be posting more of my photography. And my sketchbooks will be incorporating a lot of typography experimentation. These are my two main interests currently. I want to use type and illustration in a new way. Below here is a photo of a tilted grocery cart I shot in an alleyway in Richmond.

T Enami
T Enami, or Enami Nobukuni, created 2-D photography that is similar to gifs prior to 1926! Amazingly his remarkable 2-D collection has only been recently found. Prior his name was virtually unknown. Enami's photographs document Japan during the Meiji and Taisho periods (1826-1926) and are beautifully hand-painted and stereogrammed. Stereograms are two nearly-identical 2D images taken from slightly different angles that, when viewed together through a stereograph, appear three-dimensional.
"Despite his monumental contributions to early Japanese photography, T. Enami’s identity was not widely known outside of Japan until around 2006, when his descendants shared information about him with biographers and collectors. He was the only photographer of his era known to work in all contemporary commercial and artistic formats, and it can be said that his work has been seen by more people than that of the more established “masters” of his time." via weburbanist

Purple
Found this great book, Purple Anthology, in the library today and decided to take photos of the pages to share with you all. Purple Anthology catalogs the French magazines 15 years of influencing and revolutionizing fashion photography. In the 90s Purple reinvented and changed fashion photography by commissioning fine artists to shoot fashion editorials. Really glad I found this book. Go to your library and you will be surprised what you will find. (These are older books you cannot find in Barnes & Noble or Borders).
The photo below, People in Tokyo Call Me a Photographer by Yurie Nagashima, caught my eye because of her style and her statement: "I'm not really interested in the obsession Japanese male photographers have with taking pictures of teenage girls and their panties. It seems to me they don't know what's really exciting. Some of my self-portraits look similar, but they're completely different. Theirs are about sexual appetite, while mine are about my delusions."

Geek And His Crush
Here is another concept photo for my class project. This is a classic story of a boy who falls in love with a girl. Except this boy is a little geeky and doesn't know all the right moves to win her over.
You can see Dan's tattoos on his arm so unfortunately some of these I couldn't choose!
Final Photo.

Basement Killer
Concept photo from my photography class. The assignment was very broad in that the photo should tell a story. This photo tells a story of my neighbor killing my roommate in his basement. After struggling for many days on ideas of what my "story" should be, my roommate suggested I use my creepy basement (in the end I used my neighbors basement). Most importantly this one idea gave me many more ideas and asking for help from my friends was a great advantage. Do not be afraid of trial and error, and do not be afraid to ask for help. Also this photo was made after I did really poorly on my last assignment, that motivated me to do my best for this photo.

Esquire Magazine 3-D
Esquire Magazine's December cover will be printed in 3-D animation! Called "augmented reality" the reader will "hold the issue in front of a webcam, and an on-screen image of the magazine pops to life, letters flying off the cover. Shift and tilt the magazine, and the animation on the screen moves accordingly." (AP Press) This innovative technique shows how technology can be intertwined with print in an age when the internet has taken over traditional print mediums. Though most importantly this illustrates how art, advertising and design should evolve with the ever changing technology of today. The issue will be available nationally on November 16th, images of the issue will be posted when released/leaked!

Where The Wild Things Are
Phobias
Fear of insects or bugs.
Exploring the idea of phobias through a series of abstract illustrations. The idea of different psychological connections between the "fear of" and the "image of" specific phobias.
A phobia, is an irrational, intense, persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, or people. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, and if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.
The Rorschach Inkblot test is a psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex scientifically derived algorithms, or both. Some psychologists use this test to examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functioning. It has been employed to detect an underlying thought disorder, especially in cases where patients are reluctant to describe their thinking processes openly.

Robin Rhode x Leif Ove Andsnes
Berlin-based visual artist, Robin Rhode, and Grammy Award-winning Norwegian pianist, Leif Ove Andsnes, will collaborate in an exhibition to intertwine art and music.
"Leif Ove will be performing the piano recital, while Rhode has made a series of films that are to be are projected on screens behind the piano in an attempt to recreate the experience of looking at paintings while listening to Mussorgsky’s epic piano suite." via Yatzer
Rhode's visual imagery coincides with Mussorgsky's themes of self-realization, loss and rememberence. This beautiful collaboration between visual and audio performance highlights the emotional interconnectedness within all forms of art.
In another piece with Rhode and Andsnes called Chalk Piano, Rhode mimics the rhythms of the piano keys. Chalk Piano explores "the possibility of the piano as an instrument that could compose a picture, in this case with chalk if your imagination allows it to."
