Siemon Allen

Saw Siemon Allen talk about his work this past Wednesday at the Anderson Gallery in Richmond, Virginia. The scale and complexity of his work is beautiful. Siemon Allen is from South Africa, and his work explores the idea of the South African identity.

"...most of my work, is the result of my being in the United States, where I find myself looking at the image of South Africa as I might reconstruct it—through historical artifacts (stamps), through current media (newspapers) or through received audio (sampled sound works). To some extent it speaks to what I feel is a kind of separation from the source, and leads me to consider how much of this work is, at its core, an investigation into notions of branding and identity through displacement."

If you're in the Richmond, Virginia area, Siemon Allen's work will be on view until October 31st at the Anderson Gallery.
